Succulents are sexy! Visions of gravel and spiky plants? Forget it. Succulent gardens are in. When mixed with other drought tolerant plants the look is fantastic, unique and maintenance free. Gotta love that! Of course we can design and build whatever garden your heart desires, but will always try and steer you in the right direction as our environment changes and heats up. Gone are the days of the water guzzling cottage gardens. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Roses are one of the most drought tolerant plants around, they just need a little more maintenance than others. Think a drought tolerant garden means nothing but native plants, and that’s not your style? Think again. There is a new generation of plants on the market and some old ones that have been revived. The possibilities are endless. If you want to attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife into your garden, your gonna want a native garden. They do require a bit of maintenance as far as pruning goes, but that's about it. We incorporate feng shui principles into every design where possible, and this can be the focus of the design if that is your requirement. All of our gardens are built with care from the beginning. The soil is improved with organic compost and rotary hoed in. This gives your garden the best possible foundation to start. Just like painting, it’s all in the preparation. When we build a garden, we build it to thrive and give pleasure for many years to come. While your relaxing or playing in your garden, you can be comforted in the thought, that you have helped sustain our environment and be part of the solution to climate change.
Where to from here? You’ve decided you need a new garden but don’t know where to start. First you need a plan and a budget! So before contacting us there are a few things you need to think about. Your garden area is a valuable piece of real estate, and if you open your mind you could find you have a garden you will use and love, rather than something you’d rather ignore. What do you need your garden to do and what would be your ultimate garden? The best way to start this process is not to think of it as a garden with lawns and plants, but rather as a space and how it needs to be used to fit into your lifestyle. There are the essentials, clothes line, shed, bins, and with tightening water restrictions and the likelihood of increased water prices, a rain water tank now needs to be on the list of essentials. With generous government rebates you might as well install one while these savings are in place. Then you start to look at what happens in your garden.
Be aware, anything that is a structure will cost big bucks. Plants are very diverse, they can act as dividers, screening areas, providing shade, the list goes on … The traditional front yard, lawn and a border of shrubs, it doesn’t have to be that way. What if you were daring enough to create a little oasis, to read the morning paper, and take in the sights and sounds of your community.
What about lawns? Lawns have been getting a pretty bad rap lately because they need water to live. But not as much water as you might think. If you choose the right lawn, even without water they will bounce back to life when the rain comes. The right lawn for our climate is Kikuyu and once established is the most drought tolerant of all. Heard all those nasty stories that it gets into your garden beds and creates a mass of weeds, well that’s a myth. If your lawns are maintained on a regular basis, it can’t escape into your garden beds, because every time you edge the lawn, your cutting those invading roots, easy! Did you know ~
Last summer we watered our lawns once. We emptied one of our rain tanks onto the lawn in the middle of the heatwave. That was enough to keep the lawn green all summer. If the lawn area is kept in smaller sections it will survive a lot better than a large expanse of lawn. Artifical Lawns are very expensive, around $100 a sqm, and have they really stood the test of time. Sure you don’t have to water them or mow them, but what if you have to repair them? A lawn like Kikuyu self repairs, and can survive with annual rainfall. We can design your garden and provide a plant list, or design and build your dream garden. Maybe you want to take care of the preparation and we take care of the rest. Whatever your needs we are here to help. We provide a quality service with attention to detail for a fair and reasonable price. Give Lee-Ann 0414 840 626 or Romeo 0416 131 267 a call and get your garden growing!

Do you have windows that get the hot afternoon sun? Plant a tree to shade the sun. It will reduce temperatures inside, and reduce your electricity bill. In the winter when the leaves have fallen, giving you instant mulch, it will let the sun shine in to warm your home.
